Healthy Hair: Beautiful Hair

Love is in the Hair  No matter the hair type, most of our clients have at least one thing they would change about their hair. Your best haircut is one that works with the type of hair that you have. Tonya encourages her clients to embrace the gifts Mother Nature gave them.

Brush More  Three to five minutes of brushing a day will stimulate blood circulation promoting hair growth. Brushing also distributes the natural oils from your scalp, moisturizing and protecting your hair. I recommend a brush with a natural bristle, such as boar’s hair, for its gentleness and ability to  distribute oil and lift dirt.

Wash Less  The natural oils that your scalp produces are good for you. Most people wash their hair too frequently, missing out on the natural conditioning treatment their scalp is offering them. Also many shampoos, particularly those with sulfates, can exaggerate their drying effects. Detergents can actually make hair less manageable and cause hair to lose luster and body. Tonya can help you figure out the best cleansing routine for you based on your hair type, lifestyle and whether you use styling products.

Product  As anyone who visits La’Seviance can attest, we are not product pushers. That said, there are a few items we think are well worth a mention.

If you are styling short hair that is fine or thinning you want to avoid sticky gels – they separate the hair, enhancing the thinning appearance. We like Enjoy Creamy Pomade or Dudley’s Conditioning gel which is very soft. Both products provide control with pliable texture and volume with minimal shine.

Leave-in Conditioners will boost the moisturizing effects of your wash-out conditioner and can be used as a styling tool. Its effects are enhanced when you blow-dry your hair after application – the heat seals in the moisture. We like Enjoy Conditioning Spray and Design Essential HCO.  This will moisturizer and infuse hair with hydration and strength.

Our professional line features a number of products that give weightless shine to tired or dull hair – their drops, spray and pomade are well loved for their ability to impart a healthy glow without residue. Products that don’t feel like product and wash out with water.

What Does Unhealthy Hair Look Like?

As a professional Hair Designer for more than 20 years, it is alarming to see the rate at which many black women are losing their hair and how many of them suffer from such unhealthy hair.  Ladies, it doesn't have to be that way.  Nowhere does it state that we must settle for hair breakage, dry and brittle hair, or even split ends.  It IS possible for black women to have beautiful, shiny, silky, thick and full hair just like what we see everyday on TV, in magazines, and even on box hair products.

Our hair is connected to our image, personality, emotions, and attitude.  It's what puts the finishing touch on your favorite outfit.  It's how we exude our inner confidence.  It's what makes people take a second look.  I say all that to say, "HAIR IS ATTITUDE!"  The time is now to take the state of our hair back.  I believe Healthy Hair and Design should co-exist.

My passion is helping women put their best face forward and to teaching them how to have and maintain beautiful hair without breakage, being dry or dull, loss of hair along the hairline, thinning out, etc.

Tell me what is on your mind and we can get started today!
